How long does a Wood-Mizer blade last? ›

Blades should be replaced with a sharpened one about every 1.5 hours of cutting, or more frequently if cutting dirty wood. 2. The blade guide rollers are worn out. The blade guide rollers ensure the correct position of the saw blade relative to the sawmill bed and the blade stability in the kerf.

You should be able to sharpen your blade two or three times before needing to replace it, but sometimes breakage happens. Blade breakage can result from a range of situations. Common causes of blade breakage include: Dull teeth.

The cutting rate should be very close to the maximum for the given wood type. If the cutting rate is not enough the surface looks like goose bumps. If the cutting rate is too high then the blade has no time to make a cut and therefore "wavy" cuts appear.

If the blade wheel belts are worn out, the blade could contact the wheel, causing the blade to break. It is essential to check the belts' condition regularly. The layering of their surface is unacceptable, and they should also not be excessively dirty with collecting sawdust.

The lifespan of a wood chipper blade can vary based on the material you are cutting and how often it is used. Single-sided blades typically last 75 to 150 hours, while double-sided blades have double the lifespan of a single-sided blade and can generally last between 150 to 300 hours.

A properly maintained cold saw blade should last a long time, even with extensive use. Circular cold saw blades can endure as many as 800 to 1,000 cuts before needing to be sharpened, and they can be sharpened up to 30 or 40 times during the lifespan of the blade.

For most people, you can go years. I make a fair bit of furniture and usually start with rough wood but I still got several years out of the sharpened original blades and they are still not too bad. It isn't hard to inspect the blades on mine so I can do that, or just wait until it doesn't plane right.

Look for worn-down, chipped, broken and missing teeth or chipped carbide tips that indicate it's time to replace a circular saw blade. Check the wear line of carbide edges using a bright light and magnifying glass to determine if it's beginning to dull.
